Second grade got to visit the Fraine Barracks to see State Radio. Officer Tommy set this up as part of his D.A.R.E. program. The kids got to see where 911 calls are taken, where they meet to deal with emergencies, they got to meet Smokey the Bear, sit in patrol cars, see an ambulance in person, shoot water for the Forest Service trucks, and drive a rescue robot! It was an amazing day! If you would like to see more, please click the link to the KFYR news story form Monday evening!

Summer EBT Program:
In summer 2024, North Dakota will launch Summer EBT, a new grocery benefits program that provides families $120 for each eligible school-aged child to buy groceries when school is out. Summer is a time when many children lose the free and reduced-price meals they get at school, and when households might need a little extra help putting meals on the table. Most families will get these benefits automatically, but some parents will need to apply.

Reminder that the School will have an informational meeting on our work-based learning program at 7:00PM tonight in the new Ag. Ed. classroom. The goal of this meeting is to provide an overview of our WBL program and to create work-based opportunities for our students for the 2024-2025 school year.
If you are unable to attend but MAY be interested in hosting a student in your workplace, providing job shadow experiences, or just have questions about the program, please fill out the following survey:

Update on NSA Basketball days for 2nd and 3rd graders:
The basketball minicamps for 2nd and 3rd graders this Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday right after school is still on, however due to the water problem in the city, we are changing the times of the camp to 3:15-4:30PM.
Parents will pick up all kids at the PVE playground by 4:30PM.
We will provide a snack and a bottle of water for each child, each day. Contact Brian Christopherson if you have any questions.
Light of the Prairie Church and New Salem Hunger Relief, in partnership with Great Plains Food Bank, will be giving out free drinking water on Sunday, April 14th, from 12-1pm at the New Salem Auditorium. Everyone is welcome to come and grab some as we continue to work through the city’s water supply disruption.

5/6 Girls Volleyball practice is cancelled for today. Both coaches are out sick.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Good morning,
Just a quick update on what the school is doing for the next two days. Water fountains have been turned off. The kitchen has boiled plenty of water for kids for breakfast and lunch. Hand sanitizer bottles are being filled and we will have extra water in both offices for students and staff; but please have your children bring their own to start off the day. We will communicate with all students as well as remind students of the do's and don'ts regarding the city water throughout the next to days.
New Salem-Almont High School Junior/Senior Prom is this Saturday, April 13th at 8:00 p.m. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m.! Event will also be live-streamed on Facebook. Free will donation for admission.
Due to issues with the water in town, please send your child with a bottle full of water each day since we cannot use our water fountains or taps. We will send them home at the end of the day every day until we get news from the city that we can use the city water again. Thank you for your support!

Notice: This afternoon, the New Salem Fire Department, along with other first responders will be doing a mock drill at the intersection of 3rd street and Elm Ave for the New Salem High School students to help them realize the risk of distracted/drunk driving. Please be mindful while traveling through the area.
