Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you are aware, a new North Dakota state law now bans the use of cell phones in all schools. This change is designed to create a safer, more focused learning environment for our students—one where they can learn free from distractions.

We chose to use Yondr pouches as our high school building solution. These pouches allow students to keep their phones with them physically, but locked away during the school day.

Here’s how it will work:

Yesterday each student in grades 6–12 was issued their own numbered Yondr pouch. This pouch is the student’s responsibility and must be brought to school each day. Devices should be locked in their pouches by 8 am, or once the building is entered.

Forgotten Pouches: If a student forgets their pouch, they will be required to turn their phone in to the office for the day.

Communication: Parents may call the school at any time during the day to leave a message for their child, and messages will be delivered between classes. There is also a phone located in the office hallway that students can use if needed.

Unlocking Stations: Unlocking stations will be available within the school at various locations for students to unlock their pouches when leaving the building. We plan to install an unlocking station outside the main doors for students who may forget to unlock their phone before leaving for the day.

Thank you for your support as we work together to create a learning environment where our students are engaged, empowered, and elevated for success

We had 8 kids who took part in our Summer Reading Program for May and June. These kids worked really hard and spent a lot of time reading this summer. To reach the goal, 1st & 2nd graders read 1 hour a week. 3rd graders had to read about 70 minutes every week. 4-5th graders read at least 80 minutes a week. We had a reading celebration this summer where they picked up their ice cream certificate from Rud's Mobile, a book, a treat, and 2 prizes. They will also get to eat the with principal sometime in the next few weeks. Congratulations to our AMAZING READERS!

And our Extra Super Summer Reader Award goes to Alayna for reading over 2,400 minutes. That averages out to be almost an hour of reading a day!

Parents of high school students who are interested in Dual Credit, please see the following changes to dual credit reimbursement that was passed by the board this summer.

What’s Changing:
Starting this school year, the district will cover the cost of one dual credit course (up to 4 credits) during a student’s high school career, provided the student meets the following academic expectations:
• Final Grade of A = 100% reimbursement
• Final Grade of B = 75% reimbursement
• Final Grade C or lower, withdrawal, or non-completion = No reimbursement; the student/family will be responsible for the full cost

What’s No Longer/Not Covered:
• Tuition for more than one course
• Textbooks, fees, or materials beyond tuition

Why the Change:
This decision was made to ensure the district can continue to offer high-quality opportunities while maintaining financial responsibility. While this change may limit how many courses the district pays for directly, we are actively working to help families find alternative funding sources. Students will still be allowed to take multiple courses, but families will be financially responsible for additional courses.

A reminder to fill out the survey if you have kids that will be riding the in-town route. This route is different as you will not need to contact the bus driver or school if your child will not be riding. Our bus drivers will have the list of possible riders and will arrive approximately at 7:55AM and wait until 8:00AM. Students are then dropped off after school approximately at 3:20PM.
