PVE Parents: What a beautiful day! It was so nice to have all that sunshine and sweatshirt weather! We may see some colder temps this week, so please continue to send coats, snow pants, and boots. Mornings are still on the cold side so coats are still necessary. With all the melting snow, we have a lot of water on the playground, so snow pants and boots are helpful to keep the students dry! Thank you so much for your support!

The New Salem-Almont Athletic Banquet will be held on May 15th at 6:00 pm in the City Auditorium

Exciting news, Mark Meyer from the American Legion Post #91 just dropped off a check for $10,000 for the new facility, with $10,000 more for the next three quarters totaling $40,000! You should have seen Mr. Feiring's face when I told him. That more than pays for the dust collection system with installation. Through other donations we have now paid for the shelving and cabinetry as well.
Those were the two big items and this community made it work. Thank you American Legion Post 91 for your generosity!

Thursday's lunch: Chicken Noodle Soup
Bologna and Egg Salad Sandwiches

We will have school tomorrow but will run 2 hours late tomorrow, bus drivers will be calling families and making decisions on where they can get to. There are some very big drifts off the main roads and we won't be able to get the bus to some families.
Like I mentioned previously, we will have school on Easter Monday to make up time lost and hopefully this will be the last of it! We appreciate your patience and understanding during all of this and thank you for helping out with our distance learning!

6th-12th Grade here is the Google Meets Schedule for the 4/5 Virtual Day. Students please log in to meetings and complete all assignments for the last two days. If you are having trouble with your assignments reach out to your teachers, via email and ask questions.

Due to the high winds and no travel advised, New Salem-Almont will have distance learning today,.

I'm not complaining about the lack of snow but with what happened today, this is a tough call for school tomorrow. All bus drivers have been called and told to wait until they hear from the school. The forecast is predicting some high winds so I feel it's wise to state that New Salem-Almont will be one hour late for school with no breakfast served. This will give us some time to check on conditions. More information will be sent out by 7:30AM tomorrow.

The 5th and 6th grade volleyball matches scheduled for today at Grant County have been rescheduled for Monday, April 17 at Grant County (Elgin) starting at 5:00 central time.

The Great Plains Food Bank is coming to New Salem on April 12th 12:15-1:00. Please see the attached flyer!

Here is the virtual schedule for the 6th-12th grade students today. Please remember to log on as this is part of how attendance is recorded for virtual days.

Good evening,
I wanted to give everyone a better perspective on the decision to have school on Monday. We have had a number of late starts and early dismissals this school year as well as days missed. All but one of the days we missed, we went with our distance learning. We have not made up any of the shortened school days.
It can be a hardship for parents to work with their younger children, if you are unable to complete the work, it is understandable, please do the best you can. For older students, they should be able to work independently, they might just need some encouragement.
We only have a short time before school is out and the teachers still have standards/benchmarks to cover to prepare them for the next school year. In the high school, once the snow melts, we will have students gone often for track and golf.
The last piece to consider are the high winds that are projected through the entire day Wednesday and into the early hours of Thursday, we all know how long it takes to move the snow around in order to get anywhere and for the roads to be cleared.
I feel giving everyone adequate notice about having school on Monday allows parents to plan accordingly. If you are not back in town by then, please contact the appropriate school secretary as the absence is excused.

New Salem-Almont will go to distance learning on Tuesday due to tomorrow's forecast. The official call for Wednesday's school will take place tomorrow, however, if we do NOT have school, we will go with distance learning as well.
Finally, we will have school on Easter Monday.

Congratulations to our March Students of the Month: Sierra Vander Wal, Bristol Rud, Mark Wolff, Owen Berger, and Shila Ritz!

With the chance of another big storm headed our way, I wanted to share our plans if we do have to cancel one or more days of school. If we miss one day of school, we will go with virtual instruction. If we miss more than one day of school this week, we will have school on Easter Monday along with virtual instruction for one or more days. I realize that families may not be back from Easter break, so contact the appropriate school to let us know if your son/daughter will be gone.

The end of March is upon us! Please take a look at our Moo-rific News for March to find out everything that is going on! There is also an article about Fostering Social and Emotional learning at home!
