North Dakota held it's first drone race against 14 other high schools across the state. New Salem-Almont's two teams took 5th and 7th place respectively. Our top three students were Maksim Nelson who took 10th, Wilbur Gniffke who took 12th, and Nathan Pletan who took 13th place out of 45 students.
New Salem-Almont received a grant to buy the drones and educational materials for our robotics class this spring. Students have been practicing in the gym and hope to go outside when we have favorable conditions. The actual race is done through a timed, Virtual Reality (VR) setting against other North Dakota schools. Drones are expanding our STEM offerings and also provides students a glimpse at possible careers after high school.
