To ensure that the District is held accountable to parents and the community of New Salem-Almont, the NSA complaint policy and form has been placed on the school's website, under Parent Info.
The procedure is in place to ensure that all complaints are handled fairly and consistently. Prior to filing the form, proper procedure is to communicate with the individual(s) that you have a complaint with. If you feel the feedback received is not satisfactory, then a complaint form should be filed with the Superintendent. If the complaint is concerning the Superintendent or Business Manager, the complaint form should be filed with the School Board President. Please contact the school with any questions.

NSA Families Please Read:
In recent weeks we have noticed the topic of the Squid Games trending among some students in school and on the playground. This series is on Netflix and is about a number of popular Korean children’s games that are transformed into often fatal trials of intelligence, strength, luck or endurance. Hundreds of competitors, most struggling financially, risk all for a massive cash prize. Losers are usually killed or die in a horrific matter. Squid Game is also being viewed via other platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, and given the popularity of the games in the show, developers have made various mini-games based on Squid Game on Roblox and other gaming platforms.
“Parents need to know that the level of violence is very intense in Squid Game. Characters are systematically tortured and killed for the sadistic pleasure of a game master. Adults have sex, and there are threats of sexual violence: Women are grabbed by the hair and beaten. Themes concerning the highs one gets from gambling, winning, or conning money are a main focus.” – Common Sense Media
We suggest parents remain aware of what their children are watching, both on streaming TV and through social media. This is particularly relevant as Squid Game is trending high in popularity as the content is not suitable for primary-aged children.

CTE Grant Update:
Even though our Heart River C.T.E. grant has been completed and turned in, the North Dakota C.T.E. pushed the grant deadline back due to further language that was added by the federal government. The new guidelines could possibly change the direction of the grant but the state is still looking for more guidance.
With the new stipulations, our best hope may be with the special session that will take place in November. It is our hope that the legislators and Governor recognize the value of C.T.E. Centers and use a small part of the 1 billion dollars it has received from the American Rescue Plan to replace the 70 million C.T.E. grant. The Governor can then take the 70 million dollars that was originally earmarked for the C.T.E. grant and use it in another area that is deemed worthy.
I wish I had more positive news to report but the best thing we can do is to be patience and wait for more information from the state and federal government. Many people still have high hopes for this grant but only time will tell how it will work out. Please reach out if you have any questions.
