April Student's of the Month
"With the Governor lifting the COVID-19 emergency restrictions, New Salem-Almont will do the following in regards to COVID-19: The School District will cooperate with the NDDOH and require isolation and quarantine for the following instances: those that test positive with COVID-19 and those who are identified as household contacts. The NDDOH (not the school district) will carry out the close contact process. The school will notify those who would be considered a close contact in the school setting. The school district will ask parents and teachers to monitor symptoms of those who are identified as close contacts. It is strongly recommended that school close contacts stay home and follow the recommendations from the NDDOH. Students and staff that are sick need to stay home until their symptoms improve. We have been face-to-face since August, let's work together to finish the last 14 days strong!"

Teacher Appreciation Week: Our goal going into this year was to have face-to-face learning every day. The teachers put in extra time getting familiar with technology platforms, composing lesson plans for in-school and distance learners, and working diligently with students to help them catch up. Thank you teachers for helping make this possible!

The New Salem-Almont Speech Team would like to cordially invite you to our “Friends and Family” performance on Saturday, May 8th from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the High School. This gathering will give students on our team an opportunity to perform their dramatic, humorous, and/or informative pieces that they worked diligently all season to perfect. We will meet in the IT room for refreshments, which will be followed by a brief awards ceremony; performances will follow awards. This season was challenging—as Covid precautions allowed neither spectators nor award ceremonies at meets; therefore, this events will be a wonderful opportunity for students to show off their hard work. We ask families and friends to bring one dessert or refreshment. If you have any questions, please email Shawna Johnson at shawna.johnson@k12.nd.us. Thanks and hope to see you there!

3rd Place at State! Brie Storsved is a senior at New Salem-Almont High School. Throughout her high school career, she has been a dedicated member of the Speech team. Last year, Brie took 1st place in Speech to Inform—ensuring her a spot at the state competition; however, Covid shut down the season prematurely. But that didn’t keep Brie down! This season, she earned first place in Speech to Inform at three separate meets and ranked first at Regions. This weekend, Brie marked the end her high school Speech career by earning 3rd place at the state competition at Mandan High School. Brie’s unique personality, hard work, and dedication will take her far in life. Her Speech coach and team will miss her greatly next year and wish her all success and happiness as she embarks on her new adventure next fall at Valley City State University. Congratulations Brie!

The School Board last night voted to move next year's 6th grade up to the high school and and creating two sections due to the 27 students. Information was provided to the Board for one or two teachers but with the big move to the High School, the Board felt that providing two teachers would be the most successful for the first year of this plan. The goal the following year is to create a middle school schedule for grades 6th-8th grade which should save the district money while providing a well-rounded education that could include an elective class or two.
