CTE Grant Update: Even though our Heart River C.T.E. grant has been completed and turned in, the North Dakota C.T.E. pushed the grant deadline back due to further language that was added by the federal government. The new guidelines could possibly change the direction of the grant but the state is still looking for more guidance. With the new stipulations, our best hope may be with the special session that will take place in November. It is our hope that the legislators and Governor recognize the value of C.T.E. Centers and use a small part of the 1 billion dollars it has received from the American Rescue Plan to replace the 70 million C.T.E. grant. The Governor can then take the 70 million dollars that was originally earmarked for the C.T.E. grant and use it in another area that is deemed worthy. I wish I had more positive news to report but the best thing we can do is to be patience and wait for more information from the state and federal government. Many people still have high hopes for this grant but only time will tell how it will work out. Please reach out if you have any questions.

New Salem – Almont Middle and High School October 1 Dear New Salem – Almont Community, As many of you are aware, there is an ongoing TikTok challenge called “Devious Licks.” This is where students are being encouraged to do various challenges at their school and then showing off what they had done via their TikTok account. Last month, New Salem – Almont (NSA) was a victim of the challenge where students were asked to vandalize school property. This challenge resulted in a pinecone plugging up the school toilets. These TikTok trends have added an increased amount of stress on the staff to repair damages. At NSA we want to be proactive and stay ahead of each trend that changes every month. 1. October: Slap a teacher on the backside 2. November: Kiss your friend’s girlfriend at school 3. December: Deck the halls and show your boobs in school halls 4. January: Jab a breast 5. February: Mess up school signs 6. March: Make a mess in the cafeteria 7. April: Grab some eggs (a theft challenge) 8. May: Ditch Day 9. June: Flip off the front off 10. July: Spray a neighbor’s fence (paint graffiti on someone’s fence) Unfortunately, the identified trend for October is “smack a staff member on the backside” any act of physically striking a staff member with hands or objects will not be tolerated and will be dealt with through school consequences and the possibility of including law enforcement. NSA believes strongly in our core values: respect, being on time, accepting others, and taking responsibility. These trends take away from those values and we ask that you please talk with your child about continuing to uphold our expectations. We appreciate your help in teaching our students about being responsible and respectful towards everyone. Sincerely, Scott Klaudt Secondary Principal New Salem-Almont School
